Spence And Garcia Fight

Errol Spence Jr.

Earl Spence Vs Garcia

Errol Spence Jr. was involved in a horrific car crash last year that left him with severe wounds to his face and body (thankfully not life-threatening). The accident adds intrigue to this fight because it will be his first in-ring appearance since. Spence is ready to prove that he has not lost a step since his split decision win against Shawn Porter on September 28, 2019, shortly before the crash. It was the biggest win of Spence's career, as he unified the IBF and WBC welterweight belts.

“I’m feeling great right now. I’m in shape and ready to go. We’ve been training hard and we’re 100% percent focused. I’m ready to put on a great show for my hometown fans,” Spence said at his recent virtual media workout. “I’m not concerned about ring rust. We have a game plan and I’m working with my coach every day on it. I’m going to stick to the plan and use it Dec. 5. I can’t wait.”

Danny Garcia

A former WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Light champion and WBO Inter-Continental Super Light champion, Danny Garcia has a lot of power, particularly in his left hook. Garcia has won his last two fights and he wants to be more assertive as far as his effort against Spence to avoid a repeat of what happened in his two career losses (both by decision) against Keith Thurman in 2017 and Shawn Porter in 2018.

“I just feel like I gotta be me, I just gotta be dominant,” Danny Garcia said. “I think that was the difference in those two fights (against Thurman and Porter). I didn’t do that much extra, but they didn’t do it either. It was just that type of fight I thought I won, they thought they won. But I just feel all I gotta do is a little more, be a little more dominant and the fight is mine.”

Prediction

Garcia is a tough opponent for Spence, he has a granite chin and is always in tough close fights. I see him bringing the best out of Spence, giving us a can’t-miss fight. Both fighters are focused and dedicated ahead of this exciting championship bout and they have 42 knockouts between them, so the play I like is the Under, especially because of the price I can get. We haven't seen Spence fight after his accident and Garcia is the biggest challenge of his career. Garcia will come out focused, with a lot to prove after losing his last two title fights and he has plenty of experience in big stages like this. Make a small bet at +240 boxing odds and enjoy the fight! Under 10.5 rounds is a longshot but there's great value at this price and I can't pass on it.

Garcia vs. Spence Jr. tale of the tape

Spence Vs Garcia Odds Today

Garcia (36-2) is a former two-division champion, and he will certainly be no pushover. At 32 years old, he has quite a bit of mileage on his tires. In his 38 career professional bouts, he has posted 21 knockouts, and it’s his devastating left hook which Spence will have to be very careful to defend. His punching power is the most dangerous thing he brings to the table.

Spence (26-0) is looking to rebound from a devastating drunk driving crash in the fall of 2019 in his hometown of Dallas, just two weeks after his split-decision win over Shawn Porter for the WBC strap. He was hospitalized after being thrown from his Ferrari while not wearing a seat belt, and he was in intensive care due to non-life-threatening injuries.

The southpaw could get off to a slow start, perhaps exhibiting a little bit of rust, and potentially some trepidation early on, before he kicks off the training wheels and gets down to business. He has a chance to put all of those out of the ring issues in the rear-view mirror, and set up a giant potential pay day against either veteran Manny Pacquiao, or perhaps a unification fight with Terence Crawford.

This fight will be in front of roughly 11,000 fans.

Spence Jr. (-400) will be right at home fighting in the Metroplex, and he carries a lot of weight on his shoulders. He is trying to put that ugly crash in the past, and start making headlines again for his fighting. Look for him to get off to a rather slow start, as Garcia (+300) makes him work for it, but don’t expect the killshot from Garcia by way of that famous left hook. Spence will be able to weather an early storm and get it done in the end. Still, playing the champ on the 3-way line is rather risky.

I like SPENCE ON POINTS (-120) as the best play on this card. It’s a little more than I prefer to risk, but in the round group betting, backing the fight TO GO THE DISTANCE (-228) is a strong play.
